Nancy Forrest

2019 Gala Award Winner

Nancy Forrest's desire to make a difference was birthed when she was a teenager. She began leaving a legacy in high school, fundraising for Dutchess County ARC. After finishing college, Nancy became a volunteer at Castle Point VA Medical Center, where she worked with Veterans returning from Vietnam. As a young mom, Nancy worked closely with other women and their children at the Gannett House. She helped the families find housing, taught life skills and assited with shopping. Her biggest contribution to these families was being their friend. Nancy joined the Kiwanis Club in 1989. As a five-time President and two-time Lieutenant Governor of the New York District she has done many wonderful things wtihin the organization, helping youth and seniors alike. Much of her work with the Kiwanis Club has had a global impact. As a strong member of Kiwanis, Nancy worked withe the Club to eliminate iodine deficiency around the world. This was 10 years in the making and now children do not die from the lack of a nickels worth of iodized salt in their diet. She also worked towards implementing immunization programs for children both here in the states and around the world. The Kiwanis Club is the biggest organization of sponsored youth programs, from elementary school to college. All of their programs teach and promote community service with the youth. The Club also gives out food baskets at holidays and raises funds for children's organizations. They have sponsored the Mid-Hudson Works and Poughkeepsie Day Nursery. In addition to her work with the Kiwanis Club, Nancy collects cans and bottles for Hope On A Mission, an agency working with homeless people here in Poughkeepsie.
